Freetag v0.240 – bugfixes & enhancements

I’ve rolled out Freetag v0.240 this holiday weekend, for you to play with and enjoy. I did some limited testing by incorporating it into eatlunch.at, but i’m relying upon the greater user base to let me know about any undiscovered problems.

I think the interesting thing about this release is that people are using and requesting more advanced functionality around tags. This release includes a similar_objects feature that will capture objects tagged similarly to an existing object. Check out the “Similar Objects” sidebar on eatlunch.at:

In ‘N Out’s Page on eatlunch.at

Also, i’ve fixed some problems with the tag combos, and also made some simplified tagcloud functions incorporating the code I posted on my blog a few weeks ago. I also allow developers to pass an extra option to tagobject in order to automatically do updates if tags already exist, which means you don’t have to do a delete-then-add on tag interfaces that operate create/update/delete through a unified text box. It should be even easier to get up and running now.

Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, please go check out my post requesting ideas for Freetag federation. Thanks!

  1. damn I made a lot of change on your code and now I must check for apply this new mod :X

how to get raw tag cloud ? I think is better use raw tag for anchor and tag for the url

  2. Some fantastic work yet again! I’ve been toying with implementing Freetag into Rogue Connect for a while now, and finally got around to it yesterday. It’s a fairly modest use of the script but I’m really looking forward to exploring all its potential! It’s at http://www.rogueconnect.com/tag/ if anyone’s interesting – I’m temporarily using it on only one part of the site (fashion) but will soon be implementing it across profiles and photos.

  3. Excellent stuff, I think I’ll be using this for my project rarther than building my own tagging beast, cheers.

  4. Well I’ve again updated the tagging on Rogue Connect using FreeTag (which is an absolute gem of a tool!)

On the main page (http://www.rogueconnect.com) there’s now a tag cloud, as opposed to the general ‘search for members’ that way too many sites use. That doesn’t mean we’ve ditched the search tool, it has its uses, but tagging is a much quicker way of finding people.

We’ve also updated the tag page itself (http://www.rogueconnect.com/tag/) to display the various tags. We’ve implemented this page using a tad of Ajax (which was very cool to experiment with!!).

Now I have to get my head around the ‘similar tags’ feature, I’m yet to work out exactly how to use it.

  5. Doh, when I call the gettagcloud_tags it seems to return empty. I’m positive this is my fault though. Any sample code avalable I can compare to?
