MechWarrior 2 Soundtrack Tribute
My coworker Phil always makes fun of me because I have the MechWarrior 2 soundtrack in my iTunes share. It’s the first game soundtrack that I ever could toss in a CD player and take around with me, and is also one of my first encounters with ambient music. Since MW2 is pretty much abandonware, and the soundtrack itself isn’t available anywhere, I’m thinking about putting it on my site as properly-tagged mp3s so that other fans of the series can reminisce. Unfortunately, CDDB has a completely bunk set of track names (i.e. Mechwarrior Soundtrack 1, 2, etc.), and it would be nice to get a little text context into each piece of music. I don’t have time to do this all by myself, but if anyone wants to help, it would be a fun way to promote one of my favorite game soundtracks ever.
Here’s some proof that i’m not the only person who loves this soundtrack:
The game’s soundtrack was amazing as well. Not only did it fit the theme of the game, but many of the redbook audio tracks were good enough to listen to on their own in an audio CD player.– http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/all/greatestgames/p-49.html
The Mechwarrior II seriers from Activision gets my vote for best video game sound track ever. (Although WoW is pretty dang good) These techno/tribal tunes really helped to set a mood better than any game prior to it, IHMO. And I believe it still holds true today. Actually, I have the sound tracks on my IPOD and listen to them quite regularly. True, they lost something in the 2nd and 3rd installments of the game, but still top notch. ~T.D.~– http://games.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=146552&cid=12276984
If any feature of Mechwarrior 2 could measure up to the computer voice, it would have to be the music. The music on the game CD was so good that I would usually leave it in the drive and play it through the speakers as I was working — in fact, I am listening to the music right now. It’s still good, after all these years (tracks 03, 09 and 14 in particular… ah, heck, they’re all good). The missions were worth playing just to hear the next music track, which usually matched the feel of the mission (quiet sneaky staccato music for stealth missions, grand vocals and crescendos for all-out assults). Once again, my opinion may be biased — because I have always been a fan of electronic music — but others have said the same things, so I know I’m not completely nuts.
Also, if you have reason to believe that MW2 is not abandonware, please contact me so that I don’t make any mistakes.

I agree with you about the quality of the music. They certainly didn’t cut any corners there . . .
Man, am I glad to have found this site! My dad and I used to play MW2 back in the day, and seeing as we always liked the music from that game, I decided to burn a CD of the music for Father’s Day. Now I’m trying to catalogue the music for my own mp3 library, but there’s just one problem: my game won’t run on either of my computers! I’ve tried everything I can think of and it’s not use. Anyway, I managed to remember (I think…) what songs went with what missions for most of the game, but I really want to know for sure. I’d be happy to lend a hand if I can, but I really want to know the names of the last six tracks or so!!!
Will,
That’s awesome! I’ve been waiting to see if anyone else out there wanted to lend a hand. I’ll see if I can get the game running on any of my hardware.
Have you tried DOSBox?
-Gordon
Great, that’d be fantastic! Hmmmm, DOSBox…. can’t say I know much about it, but I’m not sure how much it’d help. I have the Win95 version of the CD, and from what I gather, there’s no way that’ll run on XP. Anyway, I’d love to find out what these last mystery tracks are. The ones I’m unsure of are the following: 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 24, 26. I’ve catalogued the rest as best I can, but of course, I could be wrong about some of those, too.
My bad. I was one track off. The songs I’m having issues with are tracks 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, and 27, as they appear on the CD.
I too have iTunes (and my iPod) loaded with MW2 music. I made a playlist called “coding music” that I shuffle-play during work (I’m a C++ programmer). I find MW2 music the best for this. It is like reliving the missions while coding.
I’ve been thinking of using MW2 music in a podcast. I wonder if there would be any legal problem with that.
I live far, far away from my parents’ place, where my old MW2 DOS cd still exists in theory. I’ve been trying to find it around, but apparently it is not yet abandonware, and so I won’t be able to actually post the music. However, i still would love to be able to populate CDDB with the proper track information, so the search continues… I have too many things going on right now though. Hopefully next month will be much better for me and I can get this going.
In the meantime, the only place i’ve found MW2 to buy is on ebay. It’s pretty cheap and I may just do it. Any other places you’ve seen it being sold?
You know what? I did about two minutes of digging and found that battletech mod productions already posts the audio in mp3 format on their site. So any readers can grab it from there. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t list the missions they relate to. So a project we still have!
http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/dloads_var.shtml
Dang, that’s irksome that somebody at Battletech Mod Productions went to the trouble to post the tunes on-line but didn’t bother to name them! I’m thinking about just shooting them an e-mail to see if they can fill in the gaps in my cataloguing. With any luck, they’ll get back to me and from there I can upload all my track information to CDDB or the like.
I know! But they’re probably in the same boat as we are. On a lucky note, I realized that I actually HAD the MW2 DOS CD in my cd case with me here, so I should be able to get it running somehow.
Awesome. If you need any help, I found this page awhile ago in my own searches. It seems a very round-about way of getting the DOS version of MW2 to run on XP, but it’s of no use to me as I have the Win95 game. There are probably 800 other pages like this one, but I’ll include it for what it’s worth.
http://www2.ntcompatible.com/thread27064-1.html
Good luck!
I heard back from Battletech Mod Productions a short while ago and they weren’t altogether helpful. Ah, well. Worth a shot.
Will,
I managed to get everything running under VDMSound over the weekend. Unfortunately, 3 of the tracks never showed up when making my way through – 21, 24, and 26. However, I seem to recall hearing them at some point in my youth, so i’m not sure what happened. I’ll get everything together, but what do you think about these three? I guess i’ll listen to the intro movies again as well…
-Gordon
Huh. That’s odd. I’ve been listening to those three tracks, and I agree that they definitely sound familiar. I have track 21 labeled (tentatively) as Bronze Anvil, 24 as Silver Staff, and 26 as Scorching Sand, but again, I’m not positive on any of these. Did you have luck with the rest of them, at least? Are all of the missions represented in the soundtrack?
Its funny becuase for the longest time I have loved the soundtrack from the MW2 series but thought I was just a nerd and noone else liked it. Thanks, you guys. Its always a pleasure finding people with common interests. I will do whatever I can to help and support this project.
Hey Neto, welcome to the club! I guess first off, do you still have a working copy of the game, and if so, can you help me with my so-called “mystery tracks?” It’d be good to get a third brain working on this thing.
Thanks Will, and Yes I do have the set, but I was only able to find the Ghost bear expansion CD. I will continue to dig for the 1st Cd. I know I have it somewhere.
Well I found all my Mech 2 CD’s the other day, actually other week, and i managed to get Mech2 and Mech2 Mercs running, GBL starts up but crashes shortly into the game, which is a shame, as i consider that the peak of the Mech 2 Series. I managed to get them all to work in DOS as well, on windows XP, pretty neat to have the old games running on my PC. The only notable frustration is the mouse is laggy, but its not a big deal, seeing as i never used it in game, though now i am tempted to, seeing as i use it for almost every other game.
Anyway, to get your game working in the DOS promt, run the dos install version of the game, hit ignore on the first error, and it will continue smoothly enough, though for Mercs, it refused to do the full blown install. After that i made shortcuts on my desktop to the games, oh adn PATCH them to the latest versions, not too hard ot find those on the web, BTech Mods seems to have them IIRC.
Anyway, the setting you will need to adjust for the shortcuts are as follows: Make sure all things will set to run the game full screen, and set the compatibility mode to windows 95 (win 95 still had fully functional MSDOS, and it somehow tricks the game into thinking this) Also run the game with 256 colours, think that was al the setting i fiddled with.
Oh one other dissapointment im yet to resolve atm is the music doesnt loop.
It may be possible to fix the mouse lag and the music looping if you can somehow run the command prompt and “install” old dos drivers for the CD drive and the Mouse, though its still playable without doing this.
Anyway, i hope ive helped people manage to get these great classics working
Phil,
I spent a few days last week trying to get my DOS CD working in WinXP, and I finally found a set of instructions that worked for me, combining VDMSound, nolfb.com, sapucdex.exe, and mouse2kv.exe. The mouse support was kinda flaky, but I got everything running WITH the redbook audio.
That let me run through the game with cheats to mark down the DOS version CD track list, which i’ve been comparing to Will’s version (Win95 i think…). There are a few differences that I can’t account for, so i’ll be happy to send what we have so far if anyone else gets the game running. It will be good to get a 3rd ear on board.
-Gordon
Oops, completely forgot to link to the instructions.

Hey. DosBox will definitely run MW2 – both the dos and the 95 versions. I spent far too much of my life wrapped up in that game back in the day. I’m running DosBox 0.63 on a p4 2.9 GiHz machine, and it runs great at 640×480 with a frameskip of 1. This link may help you:
http://www.vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=4454&highlight=mechwarrior
I was just talking to some friends about MW2 soundtrack. I used to listen to it most every day, the GBL soundtrack too. I still have the original play disks for both. The rip on the battletechmod site is crap, he used no error correction. I made a copy of the orginal music tracks onto another CD and I’m ripping it as we speak. Tagging I have no idea. But I bet I could get MW2 up and running again. There’s some patches and mods out there that mught allow me to run it simply in XP, there’s also a few other things to try.
There’s a huge number of older programs that will not run on XP without copying the C:\WINDOWS\repair\AUTOEXEC.nt to C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUTOEXEC.nt However, since MW2 doesn’t liek the NT version string XP has you might have to lie to it a little. (I’d like to avoid DOSbox, not becasue I don’t like it, but just because I stubbornly believe Windows should still support the programs that originally kept it afloat)
Anyway, I have 192k rips of the mp3s about now, and the only thing left is the mission tags.
I’ll try to get the game running (checking the links you guys all posted too). And see if I can help at all. I can still remember most of the cheat codes lol, it’s been ten years.
-xybre
I found the original composer of the musical score of MW2. I think I’m in love with this guy lol. Jeehun Hwang.
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov98/articles/jeehun.htm
Hey, thanks for the tip, Xybre! I tried what you said about copying/pasting C:\WINDOWS\repair\AUTOEXEC.nt and the game is actually installed now (I couldn’t even get THAT far before). Now it just crashes to the desktop whenever I try playing it! I might keep toying with it. Any luck locating that first MW2 CD, Neto???
I just tried fiddling around with DOSBox in the futile attempt to get MW2 running on my own system. After several rounds of reinstalling the game and fooling around with every compatability setting I could think of, I kept receiving an error message (in DOSBox) about not being able to find a video driver file or about not being able to find another file, dos4gw.exe. I tried everything I could think of – downloading new patches and drivers, reinstalling DirectX, stealing files from other folders on my system – but I’m starting to think that this game and my computer were just never meant to be. If anybody has any helpful tips, I’m all ears!
I found the MW2 cd-case but, much to my luck, without the CD. = ( Looks like I may have to steal a copy from my friend, that is if he still has it.
Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved the MW2 soundtracks. MW2 31st Century Combat, and MW2 Ghost Bear Legacy have to contain the best music I have ever experienced in a game. I still have both CDs, in fact, believe it or not, I have a copy of MW2 31st and MW2 GBL both in windows 95 version, AND both in DOS version still. I just recently bought a laptop and extracted the music on there, man it brings back memories. The music wasnt the only good thing, those two games will be definitely be considered the greatest for me, I have them installed here on my laptop, but unfortunatly they will not play.
I never knew there were people out there that loved the music as much as I did. PLEASE e-mail me (tgs_bg@msn.com) if anyone has any comment on the music, because I would love to talk to someone who shares the same interest in music. Also someone please e-mail me if they know of a way I can play both MW2 games on my laptop.
I am yet another lover of MW2 and its music. I’ve been known to take the the 3 CD’s with me on business trips so I could listen to the soundtracks.
I have had them all three ripped to MP3 for years now. And, like so many of the comments above, I thought was alone in this activity. I was Googling for ways to run MW2/3 in XP and found this site. Thanks all, for all the great and interesting information shared here.
Well, could somebody here post a list of all the songnames he has so far? I re-ripped my mechwarrior 2 cd today and there is no real cddb-entry yet. Only song1-song27
Another nice game soundtrack, btw, is the one from outcast – if you can find it somewhere – buy it, if just for the soundtrack….
Yes! I’m not the only one! Well, actually, my brother and my dad both enjoyed the MW2, GBL, and MW2M soundtracks. But I absolutely loved them! And, to my dismay, after a couple years away from home, all my copies of the games have dissappeared. So an immense amount of thanks goes to Getluky for the BMP link. THANK YOU! I don’t believe I ever stumbled across the real names for the tracks. I just named them myself, like the dork I am. Thanks again for this site and the links.
With pleasure, LQW. I’m reasonably confident on all of the following:
ive been in love with the MW2 soundtrack since day one. still in the days before i knew what an mp3 was, i serendipitously put the MW2 2 cd in my home cd player. lo and behold, after allowing track 1 (the data track) to play for 27 minutes or so, i was able to hear every in-game track. needless to say, as soon as i learned how to, i ripped the tracks to mp3.
i listened to this cd more than id like to admit. for the most part, it was a form of stress relief. i also played this cd while we used to play starcraft, as it was a more forceful soundtrack compared to the lame-by-comparison SC ST. my friends agreed and eventually subbed it for the SC music.
ive pretty much given up hope of running the original Win95 MW2 on XP. what i may end up doing is just getting an old bucket pc and running it off of that. i still have my W95 and 98 cds, so that shouldnt be a prob.
i have The Titanium Trilogy cds, but i never really cared for that version as it did not contain all the music tracks as the “Pentium Edition” cd. also, the graphics, for all their so-called 3D enhancements, werent as appealing as the original.
ill admit that im a little too chickensh*t to try the dosbox fix. ive been thru too many hd formats lately, and its taken its toll. its been fun reading all your comments. keep up the great work!
I just realized that, for some mysterious reason, all the track numbers in the list I posted earlier were re-ordered 1-20, even though I really numbered them 2, 3, 4, etc. So let me try again!
The Titanium edition didn’t include all the music tracks?? That’s the version I have, but I also have MW2 and GBL in DOS format too, can someone send me the other tracks??
ages ago in the video game section at a cash converters store i saw an actual cd soundtrack for mechwarrior 2 like the soundtrack that came out with killer instinct on super nintendo but that was years ago and my memory could be playing tricks on me can someone put it on the pirate bay or something if it does exist
ahhhh! how have you not heard of the NetMech revival movement?! there has been so much progress…..check the forum: http://www.netmech.org/forums/
Hey i bought mechWarrior 2 31st Centuary Combat years ago and it’s the version that comes with a free trial of aol… it’s windows 95 too. anyway, my question is, where is the soundtrack? i see no music wat’s so ever on my cd. and also how do u play the music? I had this game for soo long and when ever i played it, there was no music when u played. To be honest, i only recently found out thsi game has a soundtrack, and according to many, it’s kickass. so.. if anyone out there wishes to help a fellow mech pilot, i’m all ears.
There was no music while you were playing?? There must be a conflict with your computer and the game. To play the music, just put the CD in a CD player or whatever (something that plays music) and it should read it. If not, then you have a bad disc. You can contact me at tgs_bg@msn.com and I’ll give you the soundtrack as well
GOOD NEWS! If you are looking for mp3 format of MW2 31st century soundtracks, there are all here http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/dloads_var.shtml best in-game music i’ve ever heard.
I appreciate the link to the Mechwarrior 2 MP3 soundtrack page. I’ve been dabbling in getting back into ‘retro’ gaming and MW 2 had always been a favorite and I loved the music for it.
This soundtrack is amazing. I listen to it while working and can never get sick of it!
I’m glad to see people are still interested in this game
I’m now a proud owner of the MW2: Titanium Trilogy pack
great to see so many people talking about mw2. anyone heard of the “movie” in the making. I havent heard any updates but its supposed to be by that dean devlin guy who made 8 legged freaks. I really hope they stick to the original BT and not the chewed up version that microsoft kindly ruined for us. they need to take a look at the books. maybe even start off with the begining. “Way of the Clans” or even do somethin on the Gray death sagas. I really think that would make an awesome movie. my question is does anyone know where i could get the original voice overs for the computer in the mechs? the one that said “reactor online, sensors online, weapons online, all systems nominal”
Thanks Will for that Track List (just checked this site again)
Hey thanks alot for the mp3 link! I thought I was the only geek who still has these tunes running through his head to this day.
A long while back I decided that I liked the music enough to rip it from the discs, and did so. This was from the 3 disc set Mechwarrior 2: The Titanium Trilogy. From what I’ve read it appears that it may not contain all the music that the original versions did. Oh well.
I titled the tracks from each game according to the first level they were played in. Some tracks were repeated on later levels. Note that for GBL (Disc 2) some tracks are missing. This is because they are repeats of songs from Disc 1, which I think were played when you fought on the same planet in GBL. And of course, the first track was always the game data. So, here’s my list from The Titanium Trilogy. Be warned… I may have used a little creative license for the track titles here and there.
Disc 1: 31st Century Combat 02 – Umber Wall 03 – Silent Thunder 04 – Bone Machine 05 – Plum Wine 06 – Rogue Chariot 07 – Trial of Position – Wolf 08 – Bouk Obelisk 09 – Arkham Bridge 10 – Iron Piston 11 – Armor Veil 12 – Aquiline Fire 13 – Flame Tongue 14 – Mirror Cage 15 – Cold Crescent 16 – Temper Edge 17 – Trial of Position – Jade Falcon 18 – Burning Chrome
Disc 2: Ghost Bear’s Legacy 02 – Moritz Pt.2 (Second Vengeance) 03 – Justice 04 – The Blooding 05 – Underwater Strike 06 – Mannedorf Pt.2 (Patrol) 07 – Wolcott 08 – Orbital Platform (Final Vengeance) 09 – Mannedorf Pt.1 (Defense) 10 – Untitled [can't think why I left this one this way] 11 – Moritz Pt.1 (First Vengeance) 12 – Chandler 13 – Trial of Possession 15 – Jeanette 18 – Kodiak!
Disc 3: Mercenaries 02 – Scalpel 03 – Snake City 04 – Dawn Watch 05 – Final Strike 06 – Blood for Blood 07 – Exodus 08 – Freedom Fight 09 – Glittering Gold 10 – Phoenix Dawn 11 – Neon Grid 12 – Crystal Storm 13 – Judas Kiss 14 – Paper Tiger 15 – 4-Cross 16 – Warning Shot 17 – Decapitator 18 – Dragon’s Teeth 19 – Starlight Hunt 20 – Blood Cauldron 21 – Killing Fields 22 – Intro
The posts that keep coming in on this blog entry of mine continually amaze and impress me. It looks like unfortunately, the track numbers differ based upon which version of the game you got.
My original goal was to get the track listing uploaded to CDDB/Gracenote. I wonder if they list each version of the CD separately, so that each of us that compiles a list for our version can upload it there.
Thanks for all this imput guys. I too thought I was alone in the appreciation of these awesome sound tracks/games. keep on rollin.
dbw
Wow I can’t believe there are so many people who love this soundtrack. My roommate in college blasted it all the time and totally got me hooked. I never thought there were people besides us two who actually listened to this stuff! Keep fightin’ the good fight guys.
best game and soundtrack ever- someone needs to remake the game and keep the old sound tracks
Yup, i remember playing it because the intro (“We are Clan Wolf”) had an awesome voice over. The music was and still is the best, have it right here! Somehow they got the music to weave right into the game and the momement of the machines.
Also, the computer voice is unmatched in anything prior or since, well, save for the computer voice in Aliens, “attention, you now have ten minutes, to reach minimum safe distance”.
I hope that someone can post the “We are Clan Wolf” video or rip the audio, i really liked that alot! Please, please, please! Jade Falcon just had a terrible name. Maybe they can remake a game like it with a FarCry engine, that would be SWEEEEEEEEEEET!
Mechwarrior 2- wow. what a game. I’ts great hearing I am not alone!
A few years ago, I found second hand the Netmech box in a game store. Being a completist, I HAD to buy it. Did anyone else know there is a new track on it, and a few of the others are diferent. I almost cried with joy – (not good when doing 80 mph on the motorway to Cambridge) I can best discribe the new track as a piano – led mix of the most rousing tracks- but look, if anyone wants to hear it, MSN me. My handle is korodore at hotmail dot com. I’ll let you work it out. =^ _ ^=
BTW, if anyone is in UK and has a mint / v.good copy of GB Legasy to sell / trade, let me know!
PS- MW3 gets no mention! Perhaps not MW2 standard, but I’d buy those boys a drink too for a great game. MW4? What a tradgic end to one of gamings best series. Microsoft, damn you all.
Manji, I think I have something you want!
See the above post for my details…
I’m also fan of Mechwarrior 2 (and Mech2: Mercenaries) music. So many brilliant (and original in style) complex melodies, great menacing trumpets, emotive rapidly-playing strings, epic choir… Darkness, tragedy, fear, courage, and ultimate fate building in many tracks to emotive climaxes. Now I recall track 6 (Rogue Chariot) – its atmosphere can be described as perfect “ode” to almost invincible foe…
Or track 8 (Bouk Obelisk) – great emotive melody full of sacrifice… I listen to many movie soundtrack and IMHO it would beat many emotive movie compositions.
I know guys who never listened to game music but was eager to get the copy of Mech 2 music.
I’d like to ask you – do you know other works of composer Jeehun Hwang? Like Heavy Gear (I have some perfect tune from this game definitely on par with Mech 2 music), Battle Zone, Fighter Squadron, Dark Reign, Hyperblade, Apocalypse or Uprising? Could someone tell something about music from these titles? Quality, style etc. Or are somewhere music samples to download?
Thanks for answer
What’s the name of the band who creates the soundtrack of Mechwarrior 2??i can´t find it
The link to get the “All systems nominal” mp3 is :
http://65.24.76.65/sounds/FX/all_online.mp3
To YEYDI:
The name was mentioned before. Mech2 music was composed by Jeehun Hwang.
Any answer to my question (in previous comment)? Noone knows music from Heavy Gear, Dark Reign, Fighter Squadron, Battlezone, Hyperblade, Blast Chamber or Uprising… ?
Chalk me down as another MW2 soundtrack lover!
I remember the first time I played through the game, some of the tracks sounded so ‘epic’. I popped the disc in a CD player and just listened through it – I then used it when I was playing Quake II, to replace the lousy songs on that disc…
Remembered all my old faves when I got to the link with the mp3s posted above – tracks 8, 11, 23, 24… they’re all good but those are my particular faves.
While not quite up there with MW2, I find the soundtrack to Rise of Nations to be pretty good; some of the songs have that same epic, grandiose feel to them.
Anyway, have very much enjoyed this trip down memory lane =)
I bought the game on eBay just so I could listen to the soundtrack. I love it.
hey, guys i’m actually trying to find that bloddy soundtrack, have no luck. I love that sound track to death. was pretty much my first game i’ve ever played. it seem that music from that era is not in par with video game music coming out today! take a look at total annihilation, that sound track is pretty good! as well as half life, some good ambient, electronic stuff!
Hey, just drifted past here, was wondering if any of you would be interested in http://www.netmech.org.. (mw2 netmech dos revival..) they play threw a ipx network called Kali under the Mechs server, http://www.kali.net.
Sorry, i guess i should say http://www.netmech.org also has pretty simple and detailed instructions on how to get mechwarrior 2(dos, but can support resolutions up to 1024×720 or whatever it is) working on windows XP, as well as Mw2 Mercs,, i believe they even have instructions for getting it to run on linux, not positive.. Mw2 was an awsome game.. really wish they wouldn’t have lamed it out (mw3/mw4) anyways hope this helps a bit.
I think that so many devoted fans of Mech2 deserve something special
.
For all who would like to listen to intro speech and music from Mech2:
Introduction to Jade Falcons Clan
Introduction to Wolf Clan – this is really great speech (even after all the years) about honorable Warden protectors (“…we must return.. return and protect that is unique amongst the stars…”), nice male voice and dark epic melody
For those who don’t own a game and are looking for music – 3 tracks in excellent quality:
Mechwarrior 2 – Umber Wall – excellent “tribal” melody, mystic feel, and a little hopefull epic part near the end
Mechwarrior 2 – Arkham Bridge – perfectly dark doomed melody about merciless warriors fighting to death
Mechwarrior 2 – Armor Veil – another excellent doomed melody, this time totally epic and heroic, sadness, determination, self-sacrifice….
Download and enjoy excellent music! Thank you, Jeehun Hwang.
Hmm, server ruined the tags
…. so again:

Wow this brings back memories. I remember loving the soundrack.
I seem to remember the opening cutscene having great music too– I just can’t seem to remember what it sounded like.
Actually we were just discussing Mechwarrior 2 music on our game server tonight. If anyone is interested Netmech CAN now be played on the net with a XP machine. Check out this link http://www.mech2.com We now play games nightly and its still one of the best games out there. Hope to see you all soon. BlueOrb
For me, mech2 is still the greatest game ever
{was a huge transformer and robot fan since my childhood}- maybe also for its soundtrack which is great and absolutely immersing. Unfortunately i can’t find it anywhere now :/. Maybe ‘ll buy it once more also just for the music.
I’ve misplaced my MW2 cd but I loved the sound track and I can’t find it. any ideas?
Jonathan: try eBay or other auctions.
And as I posted above few excellent music tracks and two intro cues from Mech2 can be found on my website:
http://www.volny.cz/farflame/mech2.htm
my opinion. doom, mech 2 (mercs too), rayman 1. these games have the best msuic of all time. no questions asked.
oh yea it’s simple to get the game working again. http://www.netmech.org/
i just visited this site for the first time. i found my old mechwarrior 2 cd recently and tried it on windows xp, and that didn’t work. so after poking around a little, i noticed i could use windows media player and rip the songs onto my comupter, which i immediatly did. i then put it on my ipod. great songs to listen to. however i just started trying to use the stuff suggested by JOE, so i still have a chance of getting it to work. and joe, i totally agree on doom, mech2, and mech2 mercs. however i never played rayman1, so i feel kindof deprived. though, i wonder what you’d say if i told you that i was playing doom and mechwarrior, both somewhat violent games, when i less than 6. as far as good games, i believe that although doom3 sadly lacks good music, it does a good job trying to make up for it. definatly worth playing. anyone ever play the origional mechwarrior. i found it somewhere recently and tried it on an ancient computer. if you want my opinion, NEVER play that game. it’s WAY TOO old. it’s just plain bad. mech2 was by far my favorite(i’ve played 1, 2, 2mercs, 3, 3exp, 4, 4exp, and 4 mercs). i wonder if there’s gonna be a 5 and when. if anyone knows, or even has an idea, please tell me. i can’t think of anything else to add at this time. you’ll all probably hear from me again.
Yes, I agree, me too etc. Mechwarrior 2 was the first game I played on a proper multimedia PC, with decent speakers, a good-quality sound card and a CD drive, and a big joystick and monitor. It rocked my socks off, and the music stuck with me.
Not just the music but the sound effects as well; it really sounded as if you were in charge of a hundred-tonne robot, stomping over blasted deserts etc. I particularly liked the way that the music combined chunky techno beats, Wagnerian strings and Middle Eastern-style scales without sounding cliched. The only drawback was that it was all done with mid-90s sample-playback synthesisers, and some of the sounds are very thin and weedy and artificial. It would be great if the composer could go back and re-render the MIDI files with more modern technology.
The link above to the site that has the music doesn’t work at the moment; the site has been disabled, perhaps because of everybody downloading 80mb of music from it.
For the record my favourite track of the lot is number 24, which is real Where Eagles Dare stuff, martial music at the battle of armageddon ™. I remember playing the Playstation version a few years later and being terribly disappointed that it didn’t have the same music (it has a metal soundtrack instead).
From what I remember track 27 at the very least was never in the game. I assumed it was just a bonus added by the composer, because it doesn’t fit the rest of the game’s style (it’s sort-of light jazz).
Stumbled across this blog entry (And subsequent novel of comments
while trying to get the track names for the Mechwarrior 2 and Mercs soundtracks. CDDB gave names for the tracks for Ghost Bear, though whether or not these names were official, I don’t know:
01 – Canal.mp3 02 – Initiative.mp3 03 – Blind.mp3 04 – Ocean Depths.mp3 05 – Metro Siege.mp3 06 – Jungle Strike.mp3 07 – Dropship Assault.mp3 08 – Jump Jets.mp3 09 – Vengeance.mp3 10 – Ambush.mp3 11 – Mech In The Brush.mp3 12 – Rite of Passage.mp3 13 – Desert Mirage.mp3 14 – Field of Battle.mp3 15 – Dropzone.mp3 16 – Combat.mp3 17 – Trial of Possession.mp3 18 – Dead Planet.mp3 19 – Tundra.mp3 20 – Opening Cinematic.mp3
Shame Deadfire’s efforts were on the (Incomplete) Titanium Trilogy. Thanks for your work though. Nice to see others still like the soundtracks as well. Thought I’d be the only person in the world still listening to them after all these years.
Hey guys…I’ve been trying to find the female computer ‘all online’ mp3 since last week and I haven’t had any luck. I did locate a file that is similar, but I do remember the original MechWarrior 2 sound file to be more “cool” sounding than this one:
ftp://members.aol.com/FalconFly7/sfx/all_online.zip
If you have the original, or know what im talking about, please send it my way!! email: timothyn85@gmail.com
thanks!
Hey, another super sweet soundtrack (hope this isn’t off track ) that is almost unkown is the Motorhead soundtrack (not the band, the racing game). It is absolutely amazing… some of the best techno-trance music ever and it fit the game perfectly. Motorhead is basically abandonware as well, perhaps I’ll stick the tracks on my site someday as well!
“Hey guys…I’ve been trying to find the female computer ‘all online’ mp3 since last week and I haven’t had any luck. I did locate a file that is similar, but I do remember the original MechWarrior 2 sound file to be more “cool” sounding than this one:”
I agree. That sound file sounds different to what I remember. Seems like the computer is ust rushing through the initialization. I remmeber in Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries she would take a bit more time to say it. “Reactors…online. Sensors…online. Weapons…online. All systems nominal.”
I too am a BIG fan of the music in Mechwarrior 2.
However, I want to make a note that new or extra tracks seem to be included in later versions of the games.
For example, for my DOS/Win95 GBL, tracks 1-9 are new to GBL, while 10-20 are all repeats from DOS/Win95 31CC. However, in my Battlepack version of GBL, there are some GREAT tracks (10-16) not included in the DOS/Win95 version.
JJUNG,
I liked the Motorhead soundtrack as well. During its release I’d say Motorhead was one of the best looking racing game as well. The cars would go so fast it’s crazy. Unfortunately, despite all it has going for it, Motorhead is notoriously difficult (The AI is near perfect so you can’t afford to make any mistakes) and has some weird blandness to it.
What an amazing find! Others who love the Mech2 soundtracks! I’ve been listening to Mech2 and GBL for years. I never did get a copy of Merc. Was it just as awesome?
OMG… My whole family is MW2 Addicts… Obsessed with the soundtrack and everything…
I am so glad I am not the only person out there who fell in lvoe with it…
I really appreciate you guys taking your time to post here. I’m even happier to have found that I am not the only GIRL who likes playing with big destructive robots… >.^
I can’t believe I actually found a site like this. I have been searching for the music everywhere but found nothing. Then this site popped up on Yahoo, and hey presto, I have a link to download the music. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!! It’s nice to see there are mechwarrior music freaks like me out there. This music brings back MANY memories, much more than I can mention. I have to admit that I never really played the game, but the music was kept in my car’s cd player for about 4 years!!!
Keep the site going, and lets hope they make a movie of this game, with the ORIGINAL music.
Hey, I am still looking for the “all systems nominal” sound, but I did find a website where you can download the entire soundtrack for all three games:
http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/dloads_var.shtml
And I also found a link for “shut down sequence initiated,” and sadly, the link for the “all systems nominal” sound is there, but it doesn’t work:
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/6355/sound.html
Well imagine that….
Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce you to the one, the only…
All systems nominal sound!
I ran across it just after posting my last comment.
http://www.noblefusion.com/graphics/mw/nominal.wav
Indy, thanks! You are the man!
Hey y’all!
I was only trying to find the “All systems nominal” sound, but since I was at it, I grabbed the MW2: Mercs, because it’s also one of my favourite games. And the only one I played, to be honest. I have the Win95 version, but I can’t run it on WinXP either. Nevertheless, I saw some good suggestions, so I think I’ll might just give it a shot this week.
Thanks for the help!
Hey Venom, just FYI, the DOS version of MW2:Mercs work on WinXp with just a little work (basically, all DOS versions of MW2 work pretty well on WinXP).
Detailed info on this page (click on the FAQ in the sidebar): http://netmech.org/
Also, those of you who have MW2 Win95 can now get it running on WinXP easily with this patch:
http://www.warp13.co.uk/mech2.py
This is amazing! I’m quite happy to see so many people who also love the Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack. I still play it off and on and would give my left pinky finger to hear a fully orchestral version of it.
Apparently there is an organization that makes orchestral versions of video game music (I’ve already heard some of the Zelda covers). Some of the tracks to MW2 may not work if played by an orchestra but otherwise it would be nothing short of grand (even though the original electronica soundtrack is already grand enough)
Ah MW2 good times…. I lost my copy along time ago but after reading this discussion…. im going to ebay!
Thanks!!!!! For all the great people with the great OST links
I love this game, i have netmech,MW2 and MW2:GBL original at home, still have the original boxes and everything
This series rocked. The music is amazing!
Brilliant soundtracks from all MW games, my favourite were the ones from MW2
Only game that has come par is the online masterpiece “EVE-ONLINE”
infact since trying to look for this sound track i have found the composers webpage and i must say theres some great material on there.
his name is Jeehun Hwang and from entering the page i had goosebumps, instantly takes me back to the mech days
I agree, I think the music was/is awsome. glad you have this site up here, in tribute
;->
Steve

Ych: You mentioned some new great tracks (10-16) from Battlepack version of Mech2, not included in Win95/Dos version. I’m interested to hear it. Please could you grab the tracks and upload it somewhere? Tanks.
AFAIK new Battlepack tracks was compúosed by James Carey Chico, composer of Battle Zone 2.
Im a huge fan of the game and music as well… The links for the mp3.s doesnt work now though. Says something about the site closing. I wish i had all the tracks
Farflame, about the GBL Battlepack tracks, I can email them to you if you want. They’re about 2.5 to 3MB each.
If you are a afraid of spam, just make a new email account somewhere.
YCH do you have the tracks to all 3 games? I’ve been looking everywhere for these and i’ve had no luck getting ahold of them.
Hi. Does anyone have the full soundtrack on mp3? If so, please email me at mikkell@gmail.com to discuss some way of transfering it. FTP, normal file tranfer, etc.
Would be greatly appreciated.
YCH, please email me those extra GBL battlepack tracks, too. Mechwarrior 2′s music is very near and dear to my heart.
bjorgqueen at yahoo dot com
Hey NRK and Mikkell,
I’ve contacted you guys about the files. I don’t have hosting, but if I get them to you maybe you can host them and people like Zalaz can enjoy the music!
Files received, and response sent. Thanks again man!!

Ych: it would be greatly appreciated if you can send the new GPL Battlepack tracks to my mail – farflame@volny.cz. Many thanks.
if you are interested in music from Battle Zone or Heavy Gear composed by Jeehun Hwang, our admired composer of Mech2, I can upload some music samples to my webpage – http://www.volny.cz/farflame/mech2.htm.

If mechwarrior 2 is abandon ware how come i can’t find it anywhere for download
Just found this site. I would love to have those tracks as well. Please let me know if there is any way to get them.
Thank you.
YHC, Could you please email me the files? My email is nulak@hotmail.com. I’ll host them on my site so everyone else can get a copy as well.
Thanks.
wow it’s sweet to see this thing going on for so long… just ripped my MW2 soundtrack to my mp3 player
nothin like tokin a large doobie and wandering around campus with this stuff as a soundtrack!
Hey, folks, I just found this page while searching for a way to extract the music off my MW2 OEM cd. I know it’s there, it plays during the missions but for whatever reason I can’t locate it on the cd and it won’t play in a regular cd player. Will anyone be posting the files to pull down again? It looks like I’m a few days beyond the point when the files YCH posted were available. I’m looking forward to listening to this soundtrack again. My thanks to anyone who can assist.
P.G.
^ what kind of cd do you have?
Sup all~
Been playing MW again, and getting all nostalgic. Then I read about MW2 tracks on the CD!? Yet when I browsed the CD, couldn’t find anything remotely suggestive of it on the CD, just like P.G.
The CD is Pentium Edition, but “For sale with Megamedia bundle only.” So I suppose they changed it around a bit.
If someone would direct me to a (viable) site or link, I’ll be grateful.
‘Mad Cat Deployed’
I have started two torrents for the MW2 & Mercenaries soundtrack .mp3 files.
http://www.personal.psu.edu/u0y/torrents/
I am only going to seed these for a day or two.
You can add me to the roster as well for loving the MW2 music.
After all this time…
hahah…this is rather embarrasing; i still keep the Warden and Crusader Field Manuals in me bathroom blush!
This fora is huge! Great to know I am not the only one.
Movie you say?!?! Patch you say?!?!
we are one dangerous crowd! -Rafe
Those mechwarrior 2 tracks 4r3 7h3 r0x0r5 they still own all game’s soundtracks out there.I have all the soundtracks from mw2.
Well, I was able to get my hands on The Titanium Trilogy disks and ripped all the tracks using Windows Player 11. I’ve uploaded all the tracks to my site but I did not rename any of them (I will leave that up to you). I will keep them on my site for as long as possible.
timur.iserver.net/mw2
If anyone cares to share DOS version soundtracks please feel free to email me nulak@hotmail.com
Thanks and enjoy.
Tim, Thank you for posting those tracks. I really appreciate it. I’m grateful for the time you spent ripping these tracks and the bandwidth you shared in allowing those of use who can’t pull them off our own cd’s to obtain copies of them.
Thanks again.
P.G.
Ych: thanks for the new Mech2 GBP music. They are really great. But can I ask you about one thing? You said there are new tracks 10-16, but you sent me 11-13 and 16. Please can you send me tracks 10 and 14?
For all: I upload 1 fine track from Battle Zone music to my website. Its great epic, dark, little mech-like tune, composed by our admired composer Jeehun Hwamg.
Download at my site – http://www.volny.cz/farflame/mech2.htm
Hey all, just stumbled onto this site searching for MW2 songs after I discovered that the battletechmodproductions site is down. If I could be a jerk and ask one of ya’ll to email me all the MW music to blacklotus7772 AT gmail, then yet another clan fan would be in your debt. Thanks!
Hah, a whole bunch of people who also like the MW2 soundtrack. Awesome.
Although, I’m finding myself in a strange situation here. You see, my version of Mechwarrior 2 is a Macintosh version that came bundled with a computer I bought ten years ago. Some of the track lengths listed on the “official” songlist don’t seem to match up with the tracks I have on my CD. Could the Mac version of the game have yet another different version of the soundtrack?
http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/dloads_var.shtml – a site mentioned earlier in this thread, has all the MW trax you could ever want in mp3 format, but the site domain name expired on 01/31/07 and is pending renewal or deletion – I’m kicking myself for not downloading em all earlier. Add it your favourites cos I’m sure it’ll be back up soon (fingers crossed!).
btw I’ve had “shutdown sequence initiated – shutting down…” (from MW2) as my windows shutdown sound, and never get tired of it! if anyone wants it put up ur email & i’ll send it when i next check this thread with a bit of lucky.
Gargoyle, Can you please email me the shutdown sound. nulak@hotmail.com
Also, for anyone who is interested, you can download all Win95 soundtracks from my site, http://timur.iserver.net/mw2.
It seems like the titanium edition is missing some tracks
Could someone send me the original ost? Maybe just the missing tracks even? Send to Xtra(dot)Zero(at)gmail(dot)com
All this time i’ve been running those tracks thru my memory, & now i can listen to them anytime i want!!! Thanks to those who posted how to extract the files. One question, though. I remember that the tracks that played in the halls of each clan were not played during missions & don’t seem to be part of the tracks that can be ripped from the various cds; does anyone know how to extract those? I spent quite a bit of time pouring over The Remembrance & always enjoyed these tracks, particularly the Jade Falcon one.
Man… I loved this game. Same as Five8, my favorite song was the clan hall theme. Even after all these years of not playing the game or listening to the music, that song still plays through my head. Now, to see if I can actually find it.
I take it back! My favorite song was the training mode theme… And I just found it on one of the links provided here. Thank you so much!
I would be interested in the other tracks as the link is incomplete at wannabeartist(at)hotmail(dot)com.
I’ve uploaded a few soundtracks by Jeehun Hwang to my site. I have a pretty decent bit of bandwidth, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem.
I’ve got the Pentium edition of MechWarrior 2 (there were 26 music tracks on the cd, but that last one was just a couple seconds) the dos version of GBL (9 new tracks not from MW2 + 1 cinematic track), MW2 Mercenaries dos/win version (21 tracks), and Heavy Gear. I also have Dark Reign, but I haven’t bothered to upload it.
http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang/
Each sdtk is zipped.. all high-quality vbr mp3 (LAME 3.97-encoded at V2, which averages about 190kpbs). MW2 and MW2 Merc have proper tags. Enjoy.
YCH or anyone else, I’d love to get a hold of any extra tracks that were in the battlepack. Any help appreciated.
email me: mw2 at rsawhill.sent.com
Alright people here are the extra GBL tracks from the Battlepack…
http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtg818f/mech2gblextratracks.rar
Oh ffs, the link gets broken because it doesn’t like underscores…
the last part is /mech2 _ gbl _ extratracks.rar without the spaces
Well daaawwwlright. Thanks for that YCH–no problem at all for me to host them. People, you can get ‘em from the same place: http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang/MW2GBL-BPextras.zip
I gotta say though, as soon as I loaded these up it was very clear to me that they weren’t composed by Hwang–not at all similar to my ears. I suppose they’re alright though. As Farflame already pointed out, the extra tracks in the Battlepack were done by Carey James Chico (careyjamesmusic.com) so I edited the tags to reflect that. Enjoy.
On a side note, I discovered that the DOS versions of the Mech 2 games play better than the Win95 counterparts. I’m not sure why…maybe the code isn’t quite as optimized for Win95 (which was new then, while DOS had been around).
Between the Mechwarrior 2 games and Interstate 76, I’m having some great mid-90s action sim gaming!
I just submitted tracknames for Mechwarrior 2 to CBBD not too long ago. Pretty much the same as what’s listed here, only I found out track 24 is called Wolf Trial.
So it looks something like this, credited Jeehun Hwang as the artist and composer too.
MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat 01 (Data Track) 02 Umber Wall 03 Silent Thunder 04 Bone Machine 05 Trial Of Position 06 Rogue Chariot 07 Golden Spade 08 Bouk Obelisk 09 Arkham Bridge 10 Iron Piston 11 Armor Veil 12 Pyre Light 13 Sable Flame 14 Mirror Cage 15 Burning Chrome 16 Temper Edge 17 Plum Wine 18 Velvet Hammer 19 Aquiline Fire 20 Flame Tongue 21 Silver Staff 22 (Unknown) 23 Blade Splint 24 Wolf Trial 25 (Unknown) 26 Scorching Sand 27 (Unkown)
Hello, I been looking for a Mechwarrior 2 Song for a while. If anyone knows the addicted something song PLEASE TELL ME IT i love that song and i been trying to find for awhile.
Not that it really matters, but according to the wikipedia page @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior2Soundtrack #22 is the title theme. (Personally, I don’t remember.)
On another note, I just uploaded the soundtrack to the 1997 game Dark Reign. I bumped up the track numbers so that they start with 1 instead of 2.
Also, I did the same with all of the other soundtracks and updated the zips. To be clear for anyone that downloads them from now on, the track numbers and names have been bumped up by one so that #2 is now #1, #3 is now #2, etc.
http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang
mmm.. insert underscores before and after the 2 to fix that wikipedia URL.
I’ve been following this thread for about a year and a half now and it’s about time I chime in with what everyone else has said: it’s great to have chanced to find a collection of fans of the MechWarrior 2 OST on the vast internet. I got the game bundled with a joystick, had no idea that I’d be still listening to its music over a decade later. In my eagerness to find the names of the tracks rather than simply referring to my favorites as “track nine” and such, I stumbled across this page which lead me to the battletechmodproductions.com site, now unfortunately offline. They did have a fine collection of sound effects and even a bonus music track I’d not heard before (latin/samba cover of track 9).
I’m still searching for the “critical hit” sound effect, complete with klaxon and damage locations. I’m sure there’s a way to crack into the game’s files but I haven’t gone about doing that just yet. It’d make a great system error noise.
Thanks to each and every MechWarrior here who took the time to upload sounds, music, and track names. Must say, I’m pleasantly surprised to see the comments have continued for nearly two years now.
Something to note, the http://www.mechwarrior2.com domain appears to be for sale. Entry bid is about $300 USD. I’m sorely tempted. Also, http://www.mechwarrior.com leads to Microsoft’s Shadowrun site. Nice grab on their part, I suppose.
And that’s about it, I guess. You can find my little “I

anyone have a copy of the male “all systems nominal”?
hey, i just found this site and i noticed that nobody knows what the track names are for MW2 Mercs. is there anyone out there who knows what they are?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior2Soundtrack
Here you will find most of the track names. The article is interesting too.
hi !
I was browsing on Wikipedia, searching for some info on cool games for PC during the days of MS-DOS and WIndows 95. And i remembered that MechWarrior 2 was one of my favorite games ever since my parents bought me an IBM Aptiva pc for my birthday. Bundled with the pc was Mechwarrior 2 and other cool games. Good lord, those where the days.
Today, after reading the article on Wikipedia, i went to my room and found the MechWarrior 2 game cd-rom, still in its pristine condition (with some scratches). It was awesome to play the game, but the music made all the difference….
and i play the audio tracks right now, as i post rhis comment.
thanks for keeping the memory alive. =)
Does anyone know which tracks play with which missions? for all of the games but I’m mostly playing MW2 for Dos now
I’ve started playing the game again through Dosbox, it’s great, but for some reason the music doesn’t play! I ripped all the tunes to Ogg format so I can play them myself…. I just want the music back!
Here’s a good one….
Did the PS-1 version of the game have different music or tracks than the PC? I seem to remember a totally different title theme for it, though some/most/all of the other music was the same and it too played straight of the CD. (Mine was in a wallet with loads of other music that got stolen grrr).
PS? Anyone?
Thank God for Wikipedia! That’s how I found this thread, and am DL’ing MW2 and Mercs soundtracks as I type this. Over the years, I’ve had a few different copies or MW2, not just because after I bought the original when it came out, but was later bundled with other products. Some of those versions found their way into my CD stash, but I’ve lost them over the years, and I think another might be in storage. IMHO, one of the best soundtracks ever. This is the game that set the standard for everyone else to follow for game music.
Hey everyone. The person hosting the soundtracks here.
It just came to my attention that iTunes 7 (and most certainly earlier versions too) doesn’t properly read the ID3[v2.4] tags that my player (foobar2k) writes. This results in funky characters showing up after each field name–you’d know if this was happening to you. There’s no way that I can see to fix this in iTunes–the only solution I’ve found is to remove the v2 tags with foobar before bringing mp3s into iTunes.
Bottom line: I removed the ID3v2 tags from all the files and rezipped ‘n uploaded them again, under the same file names. I also included cover jpgs from Wikipedia for those that use cover art. Now iTunes users won’t be left out in the cold. Usual place: http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang/
Enjoy. =)
Thank you Ryan!
One of my HDs went out and I lost a lot of my music files, these little gems among them.
Now they are once again on my pc
OMG — I never actually thought I’d find these songs again –
OMG, I never thought I’d hear these songs again — this soundtrack was in my CD case back in highschool — I listened to it as I wrote notes to my first book outlines. It got stolen with my car CDs about 7 years ago. For some reason those tunes hit my mind tonight and I tried to track them down on here…i can’t believe I found a fansite for this stuff — I thought i was pretty unique in adding this CD to my music collection. This is an awesome site, and that MP3 download for the entire MW2 soundtrack…thank you, this is the best thing that’s happened to me all week. I didnt know a MW2 fan community even existed ^_^.
Ah Mechwarrior 2… That particular game holds fond memories. One of my novels was inspired by it. Even my nickname “Maddy” came from it. It was a big part of my life, and the music had always rocked. Then one day I put the MW2 cd in my player to see what would happen. What a pleasant surprise . but then of course, the CD broke… So now all I need is to get these songs and finally you guys came to the rescue. Thanks a million
Thanks!!
My memories are alive again…
I know this is an odd request but does anyone know where i can get the (internal ammo explosion) sound that the computer makes from the game?
Wow, thanks Ryan. Back in high school I killed a lot of time on MW2, Mercs, and Ghost Bear’s Legacy and I loved the soundtracks, but I had only ripped a couple tracks and the discs are long gone. Never thought I’d see them again unless I dug up some used copies from God knows where.
Wow,
I thought I was the only one who loved the mw2 music (great to know i’m not alone)
I lost my games (or broke) long ago, but I managed to find copies on ebay, I still like to play mercs. I have the titanium edition of mercs, but its missing some of the music….
Ryan, thanks for hosting the files.
Jeehun Hwang created some pretty amazing music–music I’ve been trying to find for quite some time now.
To everyone: You’re oh-so-welcome. It’s really cool for me to know that so many other people are re-finding these and appreciating them.
hey im a big mw2 fan and a couple of days ago i was digging up some old games on my computer and i came across the old mw2 files i know musics good but my speakers are stuffed and i can’t find a half decent patch for xp(i’ve got the win95 version) has anyone found a decent patch, oh and i think i’m missing the file mw2.dll is that important.
i’m very glad i found this sight n0w i know there are many others who are mw2 fans
Thanks Ryan for keeping your hosting up and running all this time. As I read down through all these comments and their broken links I started to worry, but I’m looking forward to finally having the great MW2 songs again once I have time to download them tonight.
Thanks!
Yeah there actually is a way to play the Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat game on an XP, but not the other ones. But about the soundtrack: I actually have the names for the tracks on 31st Century Combat and Ghost Bear’s Legacy, but not for Mercenaries. I’ll list them here:
*note: 31st Century Combat and Ghost Bear’s Legacy are the Titanium Trilogy Versions. I lost my Mercenaries Titanium, but I have a different version anyway so here ya go:
For 31st Century Combat:
1- 2- War Drums 3- Locust Battle 4- Night Fight 5- Scout 6- Urban Combat 7- Canyon 8- Colmar 9- Warhammer 10- New Avalon (Best Song Ever!!!!!!!!!) 11- The Pipes 12- Behemoth 13- Ambush 14- Javelin 15- Dropped 16- Dune Sea 17- Street Fight 18- Escort Duty 19- End Game (Same as Night Fight)
For Ghost Bear’s Legacy:
1- 2- Kitty Kitty, Here I Come (Don’t ask) 3- ‘Mech Dance 4- Ghost Bear 3 5- Searching Forever 6- Sneak Sneak 7- Morning Raid 8- Silent Predetor (this is how they spelled it, but it might be a typo) 9- One Chance Left 10- Underwater Run (splash screen background music) 11- Search and Destroy 12- Ghost Bear 12 (no name provided) 13- OmniFun (kinda disturbing, I know) 14- Jungle Jive (Urban Combat) 15- Under the Sun (Night Fight) 16- Heated Blast (Locust Battle) 17- Smoke Jag Scum (Cinematic audio clip- Kodiak!!!!!!!!)
There you are, and I’m with ya’ll on the how the soundtrack sounds. It’s also weird, I still love this music, but I’m actually a metalhead, and I still love this music!!!!!
P.S.: Just in case ya’ll didn’t already know, the composer is of course Jeehun Hwang, for all of them.
I’m glad I came across this site, I am not surprised though- the music is awesome and provides great ambience during gameplay. I have the titanium pack but lost/misplaced my ghost bears and I wanted to a have a few songs to put on my mp3 player.
Thanks for the reference to the JeehunHwang site.
You are da man! I’ve been looking on and off for the (now known) song “Pyre Light” for 10 years. Now I have it and this potentially sweet a** soundtrack to listen to. Thanks a lot!
This thread has been going for quite some time. I’ve been listening to the MW2 soundtrack since middle school. It’s just so haunting… whenever it’s playing, I feel as though I’m on my way to do something epic. Even if I’m just brushing my teeth.
Someone mentioned, way up on this thread, that the Mac version had a different soundtrack (I’m a Mac guy). I’ve been listening to the tracks posted on http://timur.iserver.net/mw2/MechWarrior2/ (PC version), and frankly I prefer my tracks. I’d be happy to post them on my web space if there’s any interest. I honestly think it isn’t just the nostalgia – there’s a sense of urgency to these MAc version tracks that I’m not getting out of the ones I’m listening to now.
Anyway, MW2 fans unite!
BTW, I still play “inverted” controls, regardless of the game I’m playing, and it’s because of Mechwarrior.
Also, clan Jade Falcon for the win.
We are probably all interested to hear the Mac version – if different. If you would be kind enough to post it and provide a link here, there would be many long time MW2 fans that would be grateful to you, myself included.
Cheers Mark (freebirth-labourer-toad) Vincent
James Gawley: please, could you upload the tracks from Mech MAC version to your site as you mentioned? At least in 192 kbps quality please. Im interested what music is there if not from maestro Jeehun Hwang. Thanks.
OMG… i was trying to get the soundtrack again. stupid me gave away the CDs a while back, not thinking that i might want to hear the music again. can you send me a link where i can find it again? or can someone send or link the soundtrack for me? that would be so awesome. i’d love to listen to it while driving. thanks a bunch pete
Pete: I know this is a lot of comments, but dude the link is there half a dozen times.
James: I totally know what you mean about the epic feeling. I’ve done soooo many things while listening to these soundtracks.
Brilliant! I lost my copy of the game years ago and had all but given up on getting the soundtrack (I suppose I could have looked harder). This has to be the most memorable game soundtrack I’ve ever come across – in particular the opening bars of Arkham Bridge and I’m right back there to when I first played the game.
Thanks Ryan for hosting it and everyone else who has kept this thread going.
Thanks a ton Ryan! And thank everyone for the memories. My MW2 Mercenaries CD got scratched all to heck since I would play the music in my car
Thank God for this site. I love the MW2 soundtracks but could never make a cd of them. What makes them so good is how he builds on layer after layer. It is hard to decide which one you want to tap to.
Ha! I thought I was a geek for listening to this soundtrack on my way to work, I feel better now…
Just stopping in – found this while Googling for the artist of the Mech2Mercs soundtrack. I still love it too! =)
Hi,
I am trying to get the sound effect files like “Shutdown sequence initiated” etc. None of the links on here work for me. Can anyone help me here? rwlong2@mail.usf.edu
Thanks.
Might I submit my list of alternate track names for the MW2 soundtrack for your consideration – I came up with these years ago before CDDB had any data on the matter -
01 – Bitter Hunt 02 – Dangerous Maneuvers 03 – Abandoned and Exposed 04 – Facing Your Fears 05 – The Price of Deception 06 – Rolling Firefight 07 – Determining Their Strength 08 – Desperate Tactics 09 – Wolf’s Fang 10 – Destruction and Defeat 11 – Lunar Recon 12 – Alien Dawn 13 – Outpost Assault 14 – Tracking the Survivors 15 – Children of Kerensky 16 – Eye for an Eye 17 – Laying in Ambush 18 – Ghosts of Tukayyid 19 – Falcon’s Claw 20 – The Snake Nest 21 – Blood Vendetta 22 – Pride of the Wardens 23 – Moment of Truth 24 – Fight for Your Honor 25 – Ending the Feud 26 – Deadly Gambit
My soundtrack arrangement is from the Macintosh version of Mechwarrior 2, btw.
Thanks Ryan!
This brings me back to the days
Wow, and here I thought I was the only person still listening to the MW2 soundtrack… It’s cool to see how many other people still enjoy it too.
I really wish someone would collect all of these and publish them. I checked the composer’s web site and he has some great media streams on there — but I really wish I could buy more of his work! Sigh — I’m sure getting the licensing from all the different companies that he’s worked for would be a nightmare.
Still — I found out that he did Cameron’s Aliens of the Deep — and I was already looking for that soundtrack without knowing it was Hwang’s work!
Great blog entry.
Thanks to those hosting the music and struggling to name the tracks.
That music revives some fine memories.
Thank you.
I really need to get hold of an audio version of the intro sequence for Mech 2 Mercs for my new Battlefield 2 gaming movie production – anyone know where I can get it from?
AWESOME I gave my MW2 DOS cd to my little cousin years ago, I don’t even know if he still has it. Thanks to whoever is running http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang/ where i got it from. thanks a lot
Hey, this is Mike… it has been about 2 years since I posted here last!!!!!!
I have the Titanium Edition CD tracks, so if anyone would like those, you can e-mail me: tgs_bg@msn.com
So it comes to my attention that there are tracks that are not on the Titanium Edition. If someone could send those to the same e-mail I would appreciate it. Same with the Mac version, I would appreciate that soundtrack as well. Thanks!!!!
Thanks TIM for sharing!!
Mechwarriors mercenaries soundtrack brings back fond memories…
Thanks Ryan. I read a large part of the beginning of this thread, and it was looking pretty bleak. Just on a whim I skipped to the end, and was surprised to see it had lasted over two years. Even better, someone had delivered the goods!
I can’t wait to listen to this later, and I’ll make sure to share it with a few fellow ambient and video game music fans. WOOOOOOOO
Wow this thread is old. Stumbled across it when I decided that I wanted to tag my Mechwarrior tracks. For Ryan if you are still around. I think I have copies of the tracks that were originally published at http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/dloads_var.shtml. Here is a run down of all the Mechwarrior tracks that I have. All are encoded at 192.
Mechwarrior 2 – The Clans – 26 Tracks Mechwarrior 2 – Ghost Bear’s Legacy – 20 Tracks Mechwarrior 2 – Mercenaries – 21 Tracks
Also I have the following: Mechwarrior 3 – 2 Tracks Mechwarrior 3 – Pirate’s Moon – 3 Tracks Mechwarrior 4 – Mercenaries – 9 Tracks Mechwarrior 4 – Vengence – 26 Tracks
If you read this then let me know so I can send them to you and you can host them. Email me at Da1King at hotmail.com and I can send them to you.
@James Gawley
“BTW, I still play ‘inverted’ controls, regardless of the game I’m playing, and it’s because of Mechwarrior.”
Same here! People think I’m crazy, I’m not crazy, I’m just.. well, okay maybe a little.
But yes I’m back again, and I’m so glad someone has posted tracks. Interestingly though, some of the tracks I listened to on http://timur.iserver.net/mw2/ are completely different than the version I have, in fact I have tracks which are no where to be found on that site.
The http://b19.org/music/JeehunHwang/ site has the tracks I’m familiar with. I shall do more listening.
After seeing how this thread is still alive, I’m going to set up a website just for us, feel free to contact me at xybre@xybreion org for now, and I’ll set up a single place where we can mirror all the tracks, variants and the like.

Does anyone have any of the computer voice commands from the MW2, MW3, and MW4? I just thought of an idea that I can make them into ringtones!
If I get them and make ringtones; I will make them accessible to everyone for free. yes! free!!!
If you can, hook me up!
E-Mail me at: littlebizzy@lycos.com
I cannot believe it! I simply cannot believe it!
After all these years…I’m not even that old, and it feels like my life has come full circle. All those childhood years wasted pretending I was encased in titanium and powered by a big nuclear reactor, stomping around on some far off world blowing shit up….
A page in my life has been turned. I have acquired the soundtrack for MW2 at last.
However, I noted some people have expressed an interest in the Mech Startup Sequence (“…all systems nominal”). And, for that matter, the shutdown sequence.
I too would like to get hold of these! they’d be great for starting and closing the pc!!! I don’t think the existing link to those soundbytes is working still
Anybody got them? Anyone at all?
Also, on a battletech movie, they allegedly scripted one out and everything, but couldn’t find a market for it (ie, decided they wouldn’t turn a profit on it). I forgot what it was called, but there are records of it on IMDB.com. It really, really sucks, because I think if there’s one thing this land of confusion DOESN’T mind these days, its some big-ass mechs blowing chunks out of each other in epic battles and stunning CGI. To be fair, the existing plans for the movie probably suck, but it doesn’t have to be that way surely!!!?
Its the same with a 40K movie, I just don’t understand why it hasn’t been done yet, and done well. There’s more than enough of a market – and furthermore, it would be so action-oriented that viewers needn’t be familiar with the existing background/plot/franchise to enjoy it. But for those of us who are familiar…we’d just get more for our money!
One day, I’ll write a mechwarrior movie. I promise. I will not rest until it has been done, and done to a satisfactory standard. THIS, I COMMAND!
Hm. Carried away again, the Serpentor quotes are coming out. Anyways, love the site, love the game, love the whole F’in franchise. Awesomeness prevails!
also, if you dig out those voice commands (or if you emailed them to the guy above me!), send them my way too at waco475@yahoo.co.uk
Also been an extremely longtime fan of this soundtrack. Decided to make a lossless rip of it. The version I have is the “Pentium Processor Edition” for Windows 95. Wasn’t sure if the tracklist would be the same as the DOS version so I installed the game and used the cheat codes to get through all the missions. They are both exactly the same though it seems. However I noticed you missed that some of the tracks appear on two missions. I have edited the wikipedia page for the OST with the changes. It was only a few tracks, and I also listed all the other Wolf Trials (since that changed every time).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior2Soundtrack
On my version the last track is 5 only seconds. It has always been like that, not like I scratched it and it suddenly changed. I had noted the same on a friend’s disc as well. Do you really have a full length copy of that track? It always just seemed to be some short go between sound, though I also couldn’t locate where it was in the game. Same for Track 25, though it sounds like something that would go in the Credits/End of Game sequence. But there is no sound at the credits screen, and the end is just those horrible movies
. I agree that track 22 should be labeled the “Title Theme” since it is identical to the SPLASH.MID which plays at the autorun menu.
I plan to go through Ghost Bear’s Legacy next and name them. Though as I recall there weren’t any new tracks on it. Or maybe there was, haven’t listened to in forever. Anyways, laters.
updated the wiki entry for GBL from the original Windows 95/MS-DOS version….now if I can go find my Mercenaries CD the trilogy is complete!
Hey guys, I’ve added 2 wav files to my site for anyone who is interested, http://timur.iserver.net/mw2/sounds I use them as my Windows start/shutdown sounds.
The GBL Soundtrack; tracks 11 to the end are not the original soundtracks that were released with the software. Someone has to have the Original tracks! Mostly everyone’s tracks list on the net are the same. I had a copy of GBL and it had the original tracks. The tracks that others have the same tracks featured in MW2 the first game… The Original release of GBL has a different soundtrack from MW2 and MW2 Mercenaries. If I can locate the Disc. I will update a link for it… I will only keep it open for three days. if you don’t catch it in time. then you’re going to have to E-mail me… laterz! P.S. I will also let you know when I will start….
many thanks for this!, now if only someone had a soundtrack/cd for battlezone/red odyssey ;p
man this stuff brings back memories!!
Thanks, guys! I SOOOO wanna play MW2 again right now…
I remember back when I was a kid being enchanted by the BattleTech and Mechwarrior 2 universe… playing this so much with one of my best friends, and I had also remembered that the MW2 soundtrack had been nothing short of epic. It was a little geeky but still awesome being able to go around middle school hallways talking about ilkhan and galaxy commanders and 100-tonners and all that.
But since our tastes and preferences often develop and evolve over the years I couldn’t help but wonder if my opinions at the time had just been because I was younger and less mature.
But thanks for your links (especially Ryan Sawhill) I can now see that the soundtrack really is as epic as I (we) originally thought. Glad I found this site and mini-community. Rock on!
Thought I might help keep this commentary going further into 2008!
I’m a big fan of MechWarrior 2 DOS, and really wish I’d never traded it away so many years ago. I picked up the Win 95 version, but it’s just not as good as the DOS ones (IMHO that is ^_^) Thanks to everyone who has posted links to the songs – it’s great to hear them again (for some reason, the Win 95 version I have is sans music).
With any luck, maybe this will be the year that MW2 DOS (all three of ‘em) will finally pass into official abandonware status, and be available for download.
I can’t believe my luck! Someone mentioned somewhere how he loved the MW2 music and I started to remember all those great tunes. My original CD went the way of the dodo years back I suspect (although I still have the not quite as brilliant MW2 Merc one). Thanks for still hosting them, Ryan, you totally made my day.
This is great! Very happy I stumbled upon this. Thanks to whomever is hosting the music.
It’s been mentioned a few times in this thread, but I really haven’t seen any answers…but does anyone have the music that plays in the Clan Halls, when you’re reading about the histories of the clans? That was some of the best ambient music I’ve ever heard.
Someone’s got to have this, somewhere out there…
I think its track number 21 sound like it
how come none of the tracks name is called silent thunder??? I have that track and remember it playing in Mech 2 and loved walking around in a mech in it but for some reason it does not seem to be on the list unless it is named differently. Also if you go to jeehuns homepage there is this track under Ambient/electro called mission X which i am sure was on the game as well. however it does not seem to be named on the sound tracks
Earlier back I have mentioned the Search for MW2 GBL soundtrack. I am going though everything I own. I knwo I have it. Rest asure I will have it out for everyone to download and copy… Just seed it!
Look what I found:
http://www.kerensky.ultraforce.org/btech/sounds/mercenaries.html
Best soundtrack ever. Track number 6 (if you count the data track#1) gets my vote.
Another random internet wanderer enjoying the music from a game he played too much as a child! To the host at b19.org, thank you!
To everyone: You’re welcome. It only costs me $10 a month–happy to do it.
I love the Mechwarrior soundtrack. I listen to all of them every day at work to drown out my co-workers.
Love the thrashy guitars of MW:Mercs most.
Loved the Soundtracks of MW2. Thought I was the only one too. It was the best. I am looking for the track that plays when you install MW4:Mercenaries when it is copying files and telling you the history of mercs.
Actually, it’s not track 21 that I’m talking about…it’s the ones located in the history area, where you can read about the Clans. There’s a different one for Jade Falcon and Wolf, neither of which seem to be located anywhere. They aren’t on any of the CDs that I’ve found.
Argh!
The tracks to which Bayou Bullet are referring to are the ones that play when you access the “Archive Holoprojector” in the Clan Hall for either clan in the game. There are also other similar tracks that play when you enter the “Ready Room” and “Cadet Training” from the Clan Hall. I would assume that they’re old MIDI tracks judging from the fact that you cannot play them as you can the other tracks. However, I looked on my MW2 CD (Win95 version) and could not find them. My best guess is that they’re somehow embedded in the game data – I hope this is not the case because I would also be interested in finding them. Hopefully this post will aid somebody who might have better luck finding these tracks than I.
Has it really been more than a year since I posted here?

Well, hello all again. Just was reminded of the soundtrack once again, this time by a thread on the Hellgate: London forums, which I am now a Community Manager of. Yay for breaking into the industry!
Anyway, still looking for that “critical hit” sound effect. goes back to scouring the internets
Ryan – can’t thank you enough.
After buying the wrong version from Amazon and not getting squat through torrent, I hunted down this blog and finally have the soundtrack again after all these years.
I’m transferring it to my Zune now, and it will proudly blast whenever I’m playing anything deserving enough on my 360.
One of the best soundtracks ever made – I never thought I’d hear it again.
Ryan – thanks so much for hosting all these files.
I couldn’t begin to guess how many dozens of times I played through MW2 and GBL as a kid. Though it’s been years since I’ve had a machine old enough to run either one, I still have both CDs in pristine condition with all my other games. The MW2 songs have been loaded into my iTunes for years, and have racked up quite a listencount. I never had Mercenaries, and I didn’t know that there were extra GBL tracks, but now I have both sets. Thanks so much!
Now, if we could just figure out the names of 25 and 27 on the MW2 disc… Seems like nobody on the internet can figure them out. (27 being the 0:05 one, and 25 being the second-to-last normal-length track.)
Also- does anyone have the actual track names for the GBL tracks? There are the new tracks from the original GBL version (1-9, as well as 21) and then the “new new” tracks from the Battlepack edition (11-13, 15, 16). The wikipedia article lists the mission names from GBL, but I wasn’t sure how everything lined up. I also seem to remember that track 21 (the “Kodiak, Jag Base, Kodiak!” cinematic) is called ‘Smoke Jag Scum’…
Got some info according to my recent rip of my old GBL, MW2 cds. Media Player gives me this much:
Ghost Bear’s Legacy track names: 11 – Search and Destroy 12 – Ghost Bear 12 13 – OmniFun 14 – Jungle Jive 15 – Under the Sun 16 – Heated Blast.
The last three I have no info on. I don’t know the name of the cinematic sequence audio, but it is number 21 on my list. Not sure if media player decided to number them according to the first audio track or the first track on the cd(aka the data track).
But thanks for hosting the files, Ryan. It made me remember where my cds were! I’ve got the original GBL music, but I’m not sure how it will have fared, due to wear and tear. I’m listening to them now. You got a place I can send the info to? I can’t host anywhere to offer for download, but I can send them to an e-mail or something.
Track 21 was not Smoke Jag Scum.
Track 25 on the original Mech 2 cd is named Redemption. It would be track 26, if the data track is included as track 1.
mechwarrior 2 is a great soundtrack have it in my mp3 lists for many years
You can find the music that you hear while waiting to launch a Cadet Mission for the Jade Falcons and the Wolves (in MIDI form) off this site, but it’ll take some digging:
http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/1.html
First, make sure your speakers are turned down, because there’s some insanely loud music on the main page. Go to their Download’s section, then scroll all the way to the bottom to “Monty’s Music Downloads.” Scroll down again to the last section on that page, the “Midis” section, and you’ll find the music entitled “mw2grim” and “mw2setup.” I have been looking all over the place for the Clan Jade Falcon Archive music, but have had no success. Perhaps someone else has had better luck?
For those serious about still playing Mechwarrior 2 on todays computers, it is still a possibility. MW2 will only play native in Win98. The solution is to take your existing PC with whatever it has in it and make a virtual window on your desktop that runs Win98. I first saw this in 2005 when my buddy who owns a PC shop had to build a screaming system for an engineer working for the state of WA. They use alot of legacy software that will not run in Win2K/XP and their PCs are dinosaurs. My buddy came up with running a virtual window on the desktop. A conventional highend PC in 2005 running Win98 on the desktop only burns about 5-10% resources even with software running actively on it. I would imagine a 2008 PC would burn considerably less. Since Win98 is only running in a virtual window, the 16 bit processor requirement is negated. That is why MW2 will not run on todays PCs if you were curious. I suppose if there were enough requests for it, Activision could be coaxed into updating MW2 to play on todays 32/64 bit processor systems. Good luck and game on!
Fantastic! Thank you guys. Listening to those tracks puts me through the long forgotten experience of the MechWarrior 2 series. Cool game, terrific soundtrack!
Hey back again! Sorry I didn’t get the site set up like I’d said (what over two years ago? lol I suck). I’m working on a soundtrack for a video game now. Not a “mech” game, but there will be “mechs” in it
The music isn’t directly inspired by MW2 but I always keep it in mind. It’s almost sad that after 10 years it’s still some of the most inspirational to me. But there’s other music like Front Line Assembly that is awesome too.
Here’s a sample of the soundtrack I’m writing for the curious: http://boomp3.com/listen/c1hf63mf4_v/tortion (collab with Advent of P:I)
Here’s a remix I worked on too: http://www.fixtremix.com/display.php?ID=120
Here’s a direct link to the sounds Neo Pryde mentioned: http://mebonty.monobasin.net/music/ And other samples from MW2 on that site: http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/sounds/
A better way to contact me these days (for whatever reason, nostalgia, or who knows, maybe you need a soundtrack, or a remix) it’s best to reach me at my gmail.com address which is “xybreus” gtalk also available.
I’ll be back in 6 months to a year if the site is still here! Haha.
WOW!! This is awesome, thank you SO much for uploading the soundtrack for MWII. I remember it was the first video game I played (I was 7 years old) and I’d leave the game running so I could hear the music over and over again. I still have the disc sitting around someplace, I was sad when I found out I couldn’t play it on XP, but I guess someone figured out how to!! lol Same with the music, I could never get it to burn onto my iPod.
This is so cool that MechWarrior still has a following after all these years. Once again, thanks a million.:)
Damn there are lots of people that are hooked to this music… I’ve been listening to it for years. Another game soundtrack I like is Wipeout, both soundtracks fit their game very well.
I’ve been playing Mech3 with the Mech2 music and have enjoyed it… only problem for me is mech3 keeps crashing at random in campaign missions. I’m running XP x64 patched to 1.2.22.0
I think Mech2 was better but I do appreciate the bit more modern graphics in Mech3. Either way these games are loads of fun and the creators of the Mech2 music should be honored to have such a loyal following of fans to their compositions.
Hey! If you want to play MW2 on a computer today, simply download DOSBox and read through their forums. A lot of people have downloaded DOSBox just to play MW2. I know I did. It works very well! The only problem is that music doesn’t run unless if you tweak a few things. But that shouldn’t be a problem for any of us, should it?
I believe I know good music. The game MW2 is good but not as good as mercenaries. But believe me when I say that the soundtrack is the best computer game soundtrack of its time. Some came close but few had full orcestral sountrack to compliment gameplay. Best music of any game ever
Re MW2 vs Merc: They’re completely different, in my opinion. I don’t really compare them. Merc is much harder. I love ‘em both. I definitely agree with the rest.
@Doctor: Good call on DOSbox! I’ve used it to play some older games (Scorched Earth, anyone?), but never even thought about using it for MW2. Gonna have to try that out.
ZOMG… err.
Hailz
Mplayer days, MNL, Shadow Clan, Memories!! I enveloped myself with Mech2, Battletech novels, and even USED THIS MW2 GAME TO HELP FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT!!!!!!!!! Cranked the bass with low dB I would be dreaming about DFA’n GKING and Novakain in a 7kill FFA timbys C1 hot tinica…… in no time. I need the highest quality OST mw2 pent ed. because i can only locate my empty CD-ROM case and my .mek floppy.
I would also get a kick outta seeing if anyone is still around. I have created a gmail box wfrp.hold.mpig.forgot1 at gmail dot com

Nothing is forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten.
And one more wish – I wish so as Jeehun Hwang return to game music world and compose something new and great for us as in the past.
Hey, yet another one of those guys who loved the MW2 soundtrack, Ghost Bear’s Legacy, Mercenaries etc. I’m starting to get interested in what was on the Macintosh and Playstation soundtracks — and did anyone have a Titanium Trilogy Ghost Bear where more than tracks 5, 11, 12, 13 and 15 had been switched? Thanks!
I’ve stopped by and visited this thread over two years now. Amazing that it is still running – thanks Ryan.
Back in ’95 when I was a high school kid I knew then what I still know now: This is awesome music. I loved the fact that the disk would play in any CD player. I played the game and the music for years. Then like many of you, I forgot about it, and then years later recalled the need for MW2. I think the music tracks have aged well! Look at how many of us there are!
An earlier post mentioned the “epic” feel you get. I totally agree.
So it seems I’m definitely not the only one that enjoys this music. Everyday at work I’ll listen to it (along with other music of course). Brings back memories of running this game on an old Packard Bell 60Mhz. I would be over-joyed if they remade this game with better graphics and physics. Just keep the music the same!
AlienEye, check out the Crysis mod MechWarrior Living Legends. It looks FANTASTIC, it’s free, and it’s being worked on by a team of truly dedicated and talented individuals. So be overjoyed. =)
DoctorKazef: And do you know what music do they use for that Mechwarrior mod? Is it at least inspired by Mech2 music from Jeehun Hwang?
on wikipedia it shows all the track names to the mech 2 soundtrack. all three mech two games. here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior2Soundtrack
they are all in order so have fun
to use that link you have to type it in and include the ’2Soundtrack’ part. I dont know why that didnt work
forget it here is the list:

Thanks so much! I recently put Mech 2 on my XP system, runs great cept no music! If you can email it to me, that would be fine! cheers!
The other day, I was scouring the internet for the names of these songs so I could update my iTunes. Since my Mech2 CD was at home and I’m living in a college dorm, I figured this would be easier to do than bugging my parents to go fish out an old disk and look them up.
I was wrong. It seems NO ONE on the internet knows the real names of these songs. Luckily for me, I was able to find my old disk and look them up myself. And here they are.
The REAL Mechwarrior 2 song names.
The CD itself is called “Songs of the Warrior.” This is what the disk read when I played it with Windows Media Player on my old Compaq Presario, six or seven years ago.

Hi everyone
If some of you are interested in more music from Hwang, I have the following:
Battlezone (excellent, similar to MW2, but more quiet/ambient style) Dark Reign Scourge of Armagon (Quake mission pack 1) Dissolution of Eternity (Quake mission pack 2)
I can upload them to somewhere, if there is interest.
I mean… I can upload the mp3s, not the actual games.
Music was awesome. Best soundtrack ever.
I’m interested… Can you up to megaupload or rapidshare or something?
@HELLBRINGER
I will upload them tomorrow, sorry for the delay.
If anyone still reads this, here is the music. Sorry I couldn’t find my Dark Reign 1 cd, but the rest is here. All redbook audio rips.
Composed by Hwang:
Scourge of Armagon – Quake mission pack 1 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9Y173US5
Dissolution of Eternity – Quake mission pack 2 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E4EKHZ0L
Most of the tracks on these two are rock/metal, very unlike Hwang, and not very good imo. There are a couple of good tracks though.
Battlezone http://www.megaupload.com/?d=67RN3E4W
Not by Hwang, but similar style:
Dark Reign 2 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5AEBTEJS
Battlezone 2 – excellent, some of the tracks (8, 9, 10) are very similar to Mechwarrior 2, they’ll get your blood pumping like the best tracks from the MW2 cd! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6D7RQDRL
Out of interest I decided to search wiki for the mw2 soundtrack to see if anyone had written an article on it because I still do lisen to this music today, found a link to this site posted in the bottom as a reference. Its good to see that so many other ppl appreciate this fine piece of music.
I must say out of every game music score/soundtrack I have ever played/herd that Mechwarrior 2 still would have to be the absolute best. There are some others that are good, even great but MW2 comes out the best. In terms of music I would prob actually rate it as one of my favorite albums ever because of its content, so much emotion behind every track that can be applied to anything. If a battletech/mechwarrior movie was ever made I hope they would use this music or add to it for the music because it would fit it in so many ways. Make sure Gregory Alper & Jeehun Hwang do it aswell!
If anyone is wondering how to get the mucic, If u can get hold of the game the audio tracks are all on the cd and u can put ur original game cd straight into a cd player or rip them with media player to ur comp.
Imo Fasa should release this soundtrack to Itunes. It would prettymuch sell itself.
Nice post, brought back a lot of memories. I too loved the MW2 soundtrack enough to listen to it over and over again. In fact, I would place it in the CD player for OTHER games — track 4, “The Thrill of the Hunt”, in particular reminds me of Tomb Raider and the dinosaur encounter.
Yeah, a huge thanks to everyone who has helped fans of MW2 get the music. Y’all are the best.
Ahh the memories! Back in the day I got into the boardgame Battletech. Then later, I of course fell in love with the MW games on the PC….oddly enough I didn’t care for the RPG (paper/dice), version of MW. I can proudly say that I’ve bested each and every game, on every difficulty setting. I sure got my money’s worth out of the old Thrustmaster FS16
So, I’m wondering, I see a couple of posts about the startup sfx but it all seems to be the newer, faster version. IIRC in the origional game, the sequence started with the engine’s turning on (sounds like two big air gaskets coupling), THEN the computer gives you status. Also, it seems slower in my memory than the newer ones I’ve heard since. If anyone has the older version or knows where to find it please let me know at gotindrachenhart@msn.com
Thanks!
Tim/Streaks (MW is how I got that nickname, I still go by it lol)
Ah can’t believe there’s so many others who love this soundtrack so much as me, really takes me back to my early teens. It truely is the greatest game soundtrack I have ever heard!
The Jenner gets my vote!
Incredible!!! I´m from Chile and played Btech centuries ago, then a multiplayer Btech game on those old 386 PC, the Mechwarrior games..I loved MW2 and all the secuells…I was looking for the .wav to add them to my new laptop and i found this…more than 2 years of posts and lots of people…Thanks for the music it takes me back a lot of years ago, when i was younger and all that cares was to avoid that Critical Hit on your engine, LOL.
I stumbled across a post mentioning the a new Mechwarrior game being in development and I felt a sudden pang of nostalgy
I just had to scramble to find the sountrack and listen to it…. Ah, the memories! I think it was the first game that made me go out and buy a better videocard (and has been a vicious cycle ever since
)
I hope the new game is worthy of the name!
Hi, I have the 3dfx MW2 which only runs with my Orchid 4MB Voodoo card which it was sold with and inextricably linked. This is by far the best version than the standard non 3dfx versions. I have just set a a PC on its own with the voodoo card just to run this game I loved it so much!
zomg. complete zomg!
i loved and lived this game. my best friend and i only referred to each other by our MW2 rank names for years. lol.
finding this soundtrack and listening to it has brought me back. im sure if I find the Cd I can find a way to get it to work on Vista Home premium?!
wish me duck. i mean luck!
Yeah there are some videos on youtube floating around that are supposed to be for Mech Warrior 5… supposedly the whole deal got kaiboshed because of some lawsuit involving the robots or battlemech or something. Kinda a shame and I hope they can work out some sort of agreement. I would REALLY love to see a fully modern, new game but actually based completely around mechs.
You have some other games around with ‘mechs’, like FEAR 2 and Battlefield 2142 but it just isn’t the same. I want the complexity and customizability of the Mech Warrior games. Just operating all the weapons and driving the mech and shooting an enemy was almost a two person job, I want those days back!
