MySQL 3.X is being used for the same reason that PHP4 is being used - it&#039;s a stable config that a lot of people (RHEL 3 users) are still provided by default. I wanted Freetag to be used by as many web devs as possible, so I built it for an old platform, plus I distributed it with a dual BSD / LGPL license to support that. Also, subselect query performance in MySQL still leaves much to be desired! If I run into scaling issues with this function i&#039;ll certainly try out populating the original IN clause with results from another query. &lt;/p&gt;

If you split it up into two separate queries and then use your language&#039;s logic to tie them together, it&#039;s a lot faster anyway :) Not sure why you&#039;re supporting MySQL 3.x though.. that&#039;s just scary ;-)&lt;/p&gt;
