Datadots – an effective theft deterrent?

This article discusses the use of microscopic dots that show up under blacklight, being applied in the thousands to cars and other theft-prone items. Apparently, it has been responsible for a huge reduction in stolen cars in Australia, because it makes the stolen goods too trackable to resell. Personally, I would pay the $20-25 out of pocket if it makes me substantially more confident that my car and its parts wouldn’t be stolen. But apparently, American auto manufacturers think it’s “too expensive”. Given that they don’t lose anything when cars are stolen, it’s easy to see why.
I’ll be emailing my state farm rep and asking about this…
